Vestibular Therapy
Do you have vertigo or a lousy sense of balance? Do these physical conditions wreak havoc on your daily routine? Vestibular disorders have that uncanny ability to bring your day to a screeching halt. If your disorder is causing you to miss work, or preventing you from bending over or lying down, please know that there is hope! Our therapists undergo additional training in the area of vestibular therapy. This is so we’re able to provide you with the specific treatment plan you need to manage your dizziness/vertigo and start getting back to enjoying what you love to do!
What is Vestibular Therapy?
Vestibular therapy, or vestibular rehabilitation therapy, is a specialized form of physical therapy. Rather than focusing on healing the muscular or cardiovascular systems, we instead give our attention to healing the vestibular system, which consists of the spinal cord and nerve endings connected to the brain and visual sensory system (the eyes).
What are the Effects of Vestibular Disorders?
People with vestibular disorders often experience problems with vertigo, dizziness, visual disturbance, and/or imbalance. This is why we dedicate our assessments to 60 minutes or longer in specific cases. We understand that a thorough assessment is essential to guide your treatment and better handle pain management.
What Goes into Vestibular Therapy?
The main form of treatment in this type of physical therapy is specific exercises with gaze and gait stabilization as the desired end result. Most of these exercises involve head movements, which are essential in retraining and stimulating your vestibular system.
How Long Does it Take to Work?
Treatment duration is dependent on the underlying cause of your symptoms. In the majority of our cases, our clients have returned to their regular routines and activities within 2 weeks or so. Some of our clients have immediately felt relief and see improvement after their first appointment!
